TEHRAN - Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah met Lebanese army chief General Michel Suleiman last week, the Lebanese Republic Ministry of Information National News Agency reported.

Lebanon has been without a president since the term of Emile Lahoud ended on November 23. The Western-backed majority and the Hezbollah-led opposition have been unable to agree on a deal to elect a successor, though both have backed army chief General Michel Suleiman to fill the post, Reuters reported.
Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa has already held talks with rival leaders to seek support for an Arab plan that calls for the election of Suleiman as president, the formation of a national unity government, and the drafting of a new law for a parliamentary election that is due next year.
Suleiman also had a telephone conversation with Syrian President Bashar al-Asad on Friday, NNA reported.
Suleiman later received Nasri Khoury, the secretary general of the Lebanese-Syrian Higher Council, to discuss bilateral relations.
In the meeting, Suleiman emphasized the need to “continue fraternal contacts between both countries and both armies.
