TEHRAN -- Hana Makhmalbaf’s film “Buddha Collapsed out of Shame” won the “ENI Windows on the World Prize”, adding one more to its nine previous international awards
The movie won the award for the Best Feature Film at the 18th African, Asian, and Latin American Film Festival of Milan, Italy, running from April 9 to 13.“The award is presented to ‘Buddha’ for the deep and artistic look of the director and its significant and delicate theme. The film features the process of formation of an extreme conventionality in Afghanistan. It reveals the fact that children who fire at each other with their wooden weapons in their childhood would turn into adults who are ready to kill and to be killed for an unknown ideology,” the jury stated while handing the award.
This is the 10th international award the film has received over the past few months. Other awards include the Special Jury Prize From the 55th San Sebastian festival 2007, the TVE Award “La Otra Mirada” by Spanish TV, the UNICEF “Paolo Ungari” special award in Rome 2007, “Daniel Langlois Innovation Prize” in Montreal 2007, “Woman & Equality Award” at Thessaloniki festival in Greece 2007, “Discovery Prize” at Sarlat Film Festival in France 2007, “Crystal Bear” and “Special Peace Award” at Berlin Film Festival, Germany, 2008, and “Special Award” of the Association Club de Las 25, Spain, 2008.
