BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - PetroChina Co. Ltd., the country’s top oil and gas producer, has set a capacity target of 5 billion cubic meters at its Mahe gas field by 2010, parent China National Petroleum Corp. said.

Mahe field, in the Junggar basin in northwestern China’s Xinjiang region, will have annual capacity of one billion cubic meters by the end of 2008, the company said.
The field entered commercial operations in November 2007 with initial gas production of 1.5 million cubic meters per day.
The field took just over a year from the date of discovery to be brought to production, compared with the industry average of three years.
The field, which was tapped in September 2006, has total gas reserves of nearly 30 billion cubic meters, the official Xinhua news agency reported earlier.
