Pavlik pulls out of defense

A knuckle injury has forced middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik to postpone his title defense against Paul Williams.

The duo had been slated to meet on October 3 in Atlantic City, but Pavlik has been unable to overcome an infection in his left hand.
The WBO and WBO champion was left with no option but to withdraw although the fight should still take place later in the year.
Pavlik's co-manager Cameron Dunkin told ESPN.com: ""His knuckle is infected. It's all infected. It's worse than it was.
""He has to go on an IV drip starting in the morning and do it for the next couple of weeks to get it cleaned out. It needs medical attention. He can't put a glove on.""
