TEHRAN- About hundred firefighters were called to tackle blaze at a 5,000 m2 bicycle warehouse in Southern Tehran on Friday afternoon, the Mehr News agency reported on Saturday.

Five fire engines were called to the scene at the warehouse located in Fadaian Islam Street, Southern Tehran at 14:39 on Friday afternoon.

“It took about five exhausting hours for the firefighters to bring the blaze under control,” said Seyed Jalal Maleki, spokesman for Organization of Tehran Municipality’s Fire and Safety Services.

“Wind caused the fire to quickly spread everywhere and much of the stuff inside the warehouse was burnt, fortunately nobody was killed in the incident,” he confirmed.

“During the operation, three firefighters suffered from smoke inhalation, two of them were treated at the scene, and the third one was sent to hospital,” Maleki said.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, he concluded.
