TEHRAN – Manual Jose was appointed as the Persepolis coach on Tuesday and has agreed one-year deal reportedly worth $1 million.

The reports suggested that the 66-year-old Portuguese will be assisted by former Persepolis midfielder Hamid Derakhshan.

Jose is credited for discovering Luis Figo while he was working with Sporting CP, a fact that he denies.

He left Al-Ahly in February following the Port Said tragedy in which at least 74 people were killed, but returned two weeks later due to his good relationship with the club.

Manuel Jose finally left the Egyptian team in May.

Nine-time Iranian champions Persepolis finished the 2011-12 Iranian Pro League season in 12th place and bowed out of the 2012 AFC Champions League in the 16th round.
