TEHRAN- Iranian security forces have managed to identify and arrest a high-profile member of the Takfiri Daesh terrorist group in the country’s central province of Alborz near the capital Tehran.

Police spokesman General Saeed Montazer-al-Mahdi said on Saturday that the terrorist, identified as Mohammed Zakir but better known by the alias Ramesh, was captured in the Mahdasht district of Karaj City following complicated operations by the anti-terrorism division of the Islamic Republic of Iran Police Intelligence Organization (SAFA), and a tip-off from a member of the public.

He added that two other terrorists were arrested along with the high-profile Daesh member. They were identified in two different locations and were arrested after their car was shot at.

The three terrorists were planning to carry out bombing attacks on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, Montazer-al-Mahdi noted.

Eight individuals who were accompanying the terrorists were also arrested, the Iranian police spokesman concluded.

On April 2, Iranian media outlets reported that the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) intelligence forces had arrested two militants affiliated with the Daesh Khorasan (Daesh-K) terrorist group in the central province of Qom.

The terrorists were captured at the entrance gate of the holy shrine of Fatima Masoumeh (SA), the sister of the eighth Shia Imam, Ali ibn Musa al-Reza (AS).

In mid-February, General Montazer-al-Mahdi announced the arrest of two individuals suspected of terrorist activities in the northern province of Golestan.

The operation, carried out through a combination of technical expertise and intelligence gathering, thwarted potential acts of sabotage planned by these terrorists, General Montazer-al-Mahdi stated.

The suspects, identified as a man and a woman, were swiftly apprehended by security forces. Upon their arrest, police discovered that the suspects owned explosive materials.
