TEHRAN - In an effort to encourage domestic tourism, Germi, a historical county nestled within Iran's Ardabil province, is gearing up to host a series of local festivals.

The initiative, spearheaded by the provincial tourism department, aims to promote the region's rich natural splendor, particularly focusing on the breathtaking attractions of Lake Gilarloo.

Hassan Mohammadi-Adib, the provincial tourism chief, unveiled the plan during a recent meeting with local government officials.

Proposing the creation of some festivals, Mohammadi-Adib emphasized the significance of Germi's unparalleled natural beauty and cultural heritage to attract visitors from across Iran.

The official pointed out that such festivals play a crucial role in promoting visibility and attracting investment to regions.

“It's essential that we introduce festivals to showcase the capacities of Germi,” Mohammdi-Adib stated. “Such as Lake Gilarloo, which is a well-trodden destination within the region.”

In addition to festival planning, Mohammadi-Adib underscored the need for local budget allocations for content production with an eye toward highlighting regional attractions and archaeological excavations at the Tappeh Digevar site.

Moreover, Germi’s governor, Hossein Molaei, expressed strong support for the focus on cultural heritage, tourism, and handicrafts, which he described as top priorities for the region.

“In recent years, we have allocated significant funding to these sectors,” Molaei further noted. “This year's budget would continue to support various activities including archaeological work, festival organization, handicraft training, the Germi Museum, and the development of tourism-focused roadways.”

As revealed by the provincial officials, this proposed festival and other initiatives aim to transform Lake Gilarloo into a significant cultural and tourist destination, promoting local heritage and boosting economic growth through increased tourist activity.

Lake Gilarloo, nestled within the picturesque landscapes of Germi in the Ardabil province, stands as a serene and somewhat underexploited attraction. The lake is situated in a region known for its rugged natural beauty, encompassing lush greenery and a climate that varies dramatically with the seasons, making it an ideal spot for nature lovers and tourists seeking tranquility away from the bustle of city life.

Geographically, Lake Gilarloo is part of the broader eco-region of northwestern Iran, an area characterized by its rich biodiversity and unique ecosystems.

Lake Gilarloo represents a blend of natural beauty, ecological significance, and cultural heritage. As claimed by the related officials, with planned developments and the proposed introduction of festivals and other tourist-friendly activities, the lake is on the brink of transforming into a key destination for those looking to explore the hidden gems of Iran's Ardabil province.
