TEHRAN – Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi spent a day in Tehran on Saturday, where he held conversations with top Iranian officials as part of the two countries’ frequent exchanges on bilateral and regional issues.

Al Busaidi was first received by his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi. The two diplomats held a joint press conference after a relatively long meeting, during which they committed to increasing bilateral cooperation and deepening the already cordial ties between their nations.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran and the Sultanate of Oman are eager to develop their bilateral cooperation and work jointly to bring peace and stability to the West Asia region,” Araghchi stated, adding that Al Busaidi’s visit to Tehran was yet another testament to the strong historical and cultural bonds between the countries.  “We have had good historical ties and are ready to expand them further based on mutual respect and benefits.”

Araghchi said the Iranian and Omani delegations reviewed regional and international developments during their meeting, including those related to Palestine, Yemen, Lebanon and Syria. He stated that the two sides stressed the need for cooperation to accomplish “peace, security and stability, especially in the Persian Gulf region.”

Emphasizing Iran’s long-standing approach towards establishing and strengthening relations with its neighbors, as well as fending off foreign plots to sow discord in the region, Araghchi commended Oman’s constructive mediations to resolve disputes. “Similarly, we appreciate the role of Muscat and Mr. Badr al-Busaidi during the indirect talks between Iran and the United States, which were unfortunately ended with the American aggression,” he added.

Oman mediated five rounds of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the United States in April and May of 2025. The talks were cancelled after the U.S. and Israel began a bombing campaign against Iran only days ahead of a sixth round of discussions. The attacks killed approximately 1,100 Iranians, mostly civilians.

In response to a question regarding the Israeli divisive agenda in the region and beyond, the Iranian foreign minister said both Tehran and Muscat are against the separation of Yemen and would not allow the Israeli regime to accomplish its goal of parting and weakening the regional countries. “Such a plot will lead to insecurity and instability,” he warned.

Reiterating Iran's support for sovereignty and territorial integrity of Yemen, Araghchi said that all countries, including Syria and Lebanon, must be immune from any foreign interference and the people there must decide their fate and overcome internal affairs by themselves.

For his part, Al Busaidi pointed to the “hopefulness and positive atmosphere” prevailing in the relations between Oman and Iran.

The Omani foreign minister said it is important to get all countries involved in cooperation.

He emphasized that Oman has always adopted the policy of keeping the channels of consultation among all countries open in order to deal with the challenges, adding that his country is glad to proceed with such efforts.

Pointing to the talks held with the Iranian foreign minister about the latest developments in Yemen and Palestine, Al Busaidi said Muscat and Tehran share views about the formation of a Palestinian government.

Diplomacy is the sole way of resolving crises and preventing tensions, the top Omani diplomat added.

President Masoud Pezeshkian became the second official to receive Al Busaidi. During their meeting, Pezeshkian stressed that the Iranian people are standing firmly behind the Islamic Republic amid the ongoing unrest fomented by the U.S. and Israeli regime.

“The Iranian nation will defend their country and Islamic Establishment with more resolve than ever,” the president stated.

Pezeshkian then emphasised the expansion of ties between Iran and its neighbors as a principled foreign policy, adding that Tehran is resolved to expand ties with Oman in all areas.  He said Washington and Tel Aviv are seeking escalation in the region with the aim of preventing Islamic unity.

The top Omani diplomat further stressed the importance of ties with Tehran, saying that his country will spare no efforts to assist Iran with tackling its problems.
