KARACHI A 12-member trade delegation from Iran's Khorasan region recently visited the headquarters of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry here, to discuss ways and means of expanding economic, commercial, and investment cooperation between the business community of Iran and the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) member countries in general, and Pakistan, in particular. The Secretary General of the Islamic Chamber, Aqeel A. al-Jassim welcomed the Iranian trade delegation and thanked them for their visit, and outlined to them some of the functions and activities of the chamber. Jassim referred to the resolution of the 8th Islamic summit that was held in Tehran in 1997, for setting up an Islamic common market, and said that for this purpose member countries will have to "gradually phase-out their tariff and other trade barriers." The Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry boss then outline to the delegation the various economic sectors, with particular emphasis on the agricultural sector, in which Iran and other member countries of the OIC could cooperate for their mutual benefit.
