Yazdi Calls For Solidarity Between Majlis and GC
In a recent move, 7 MPs initiated a motion demanding that the Guardian Council (GC) meet in open sessions. Majlis members pointed out that the Legislative branch in Iran is made up of two bodies, the Majlis and the Guardian Council; the first of which has a primary and active, while the second has a supervisory and derivative role.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the prominent cleric and former Judiciary chief noted that legislation follows a natural procedure, which is the same in most countries of the world. He noted that the supervisory responsibility of the Guardian Council is routine practice throughout the world and certain bodies under various names supervise parliamentary legislation in all countries.
The substitute prayer leader pointed out that the meetings of the specialized committees of Majlis, like those by other governmental committees, including the ones by the Expediency Council, are all held behind closed doors, owing to the specialized nature of the matters under discussion.
Yazdi stated that there exist no leanings to the left or the right within the council and added that at a time when the country is targeted by the greedy eyes of the enemies solidarity is a necessity and Majlis members should place their trust in the council.
Meanwhile in reference to Bush's warmongering policies he stated that, Iran is opposed to military attacks against all countries.
Yazdi also criticized the U.S. and Zionist opposition to the establishment of an international criminal tribunal and denounced UN's report on the massacre of Palestinians by Zionists in Jenin Refugee Camp as lukewarm.
