TEHRAN -- A documentary focusing on a serial murderer, who had turned into a nightmare for the women living in Tehran in 1997, will be screened at Tehran’s Azadi Cinema this evening.

“Step by Step until Visiting Satan” is about Gholamreza Khoshru, who killed and burned nine women in the deserted area around Tehran in order to rob them over a period of three months in 1997.
Khoshru, who was called “night bat”, was arrested three days after the last murder. He was hanged following a trial that lasted for about two months.
“The Iranian people need to be aware of the problems threatening them,” director Mojtaba Raei told the Persian service of ISNA on Tuesday.
“We made dilligent and intensive efforts over two years to produce the documentary,” he added.
He criticized Iranian judiciary officials for not giving any assistance in making the film and added, “We have tried to raise social awareness through this documentary.”
Over the past week, the Iranian people have been enraged after several reports were published on two crimes, one in Khomienishahr in Isfahan Province, and the other in a village near Kashmar in Khorasan Razavi Province.
In Khomienishahr, eleven men attacked a family in a garden and raped the women after locking their men in a room.
In the village of Qujdeh near Kashmar, a woman was raped by about fifty men after she was kidnapped.
“Unfortunately, Iranians lack awareness of crime. As a filmmaker, I beleive I must familiarize people with the threat of crime and the methods for its prevention,” Raei stated.
