Iranian teams win Asian Belt Wrestling Alysh

TEHRAN – Iranian men and women teams claimed the titles of the Senior Asian Belt Wrestling Alysh 2015 competitions.

The Iranian Men’s team finished in the first place with 49 points.

Kyrgyzstan finished in second place with 43 points and Turkmenistan came third with 34 points.


The Iranian women team also claimed the title with 52 points, followed by Turkmenistan (41 points), and Kyrgyzstan (39 points).


Iran, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, India, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Thailand, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Indonesia took part in the two-day competitions.

Alysh is a term for Central Asian folk wrestling or ""belt wrestling"" regulated by International Federation Wrestling of Belts ""Alysh» (IFWBA).

It is an upright wrestling style. Competitors wear trousers, jackets and belts, and must hold on to their opponents' belts at all times. Their objective is to throw their opponents onto the mat.

Alysh is recognized by the world governing body for wrestling, United World Wrestling (UWW), as ""belt wrestling alysh.
