TEHRAN – Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has urged a massive turnout in the next month’s elections, saying it will boost the Islamic Republic system’s “resilience” and “security”.
During a meeting with a group of people from the holy city of Qom in Tehran on Saturday, the Leader urged all, even those who are against him and the Islamic Republic system, to participate in the parliamentary and Assembly of Experts elections, which will be held on February 26.“Like before, we insist that all, even those who do not approve of the system and the Leadership, come to the ballot boxes, because the elections belong to the Iranian nation,” the Leader noted.
He said “participating in the elections in principle” and “voting for the most qualified candidates” are two important issues in the elections.
He also described the current parliament’s position on international issues as “good”, saying that the Majlis expressed the Iranian people’s stance bravely during the nuclear talks with great powers.
The Leader went on to say that it is difficult to know all the candidates, however observing the position and background of those who prepare the candidate lists can be a help in this respect.
The lists that are prepared by those who do not care about the revolution, religion, and independence cannot be trusted, he noted.
He also highlighted the importance of being highly careful in voting for those running for the Assembly of Experts, because the future Leader will be determined by the assembly.
Elsewhere, the Leader said that Iran is facing “enemies including the U.S., the Zionist regime of Israel, the hegemonic system’s elements and allies, and elements of Takfiris and Daesh [also called ISIL/ISIS/IS]”.
Iran can defeat the enemies by “resistance, insight and action at the moment of necessity”, the Leader remarked.
The Leader also said, “The Islamic Republic of Iran is the only revolution that has been able to last based on its preliminary principles and causes.”
