“A Separation” selected for Oscars’ foreign film shortlist

Eight other films are on the shortlist announced on Wednesday.
“A Separation”, by writer and director Asghar Farhadi, won the best foreign language film award at the Golden Globe Awards in Los Angeles last week.
German director Wim Wenders’ ”Pina” is also among the contenders in the Oscars’ foreign language film category.
Taiwan’s “Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale”, Israel’s “Footnote”, Poland’s “In Darkness”, Belgium’s “Bullhead”, Denmark’s “Superclásico”, Canada’s “Monsieur Lazhar”, and Morocco’s “Omar Killed Me” are on the shortlist.
“A Separation” won the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival in February 2011. The film also received best foreign language film awards from the U.S. National Board of Review and the New York Film Critics Circle, and a nomination for the foreign language film award at the BAFTA Film Awards.
Oscar nominations will be announced on January 24 and the awards will be given out in Los Angeles on February 26.
