TEHRAN -- A ceremony marking the first death anniversary of the Iranian poet Seyed Ahmad Fakhrinejad, with the pen name of Shivan Foumani, was recently held in Fouman, Gilan Province. The ceremony was attended by more than 500 outstanding cultural and literary figures. In the ceremony, which was sponsored by Literary Society of Culture and Islamic Guidance Bureau of Fouman, 20 Gilani poets recited some poems in commemoration of this poet.

Shams Al-Ahmad, who also attended the ceremony, recalled a memory of Shivan Foumani and called him a literary luminary. He said that Shivan Foumani created a great change in Gilaki poetry, which was about to be vanished. Ahmad Hazratzad, a Tehran University professor, called Foumani an exceptional literary figure, adding that Foumani was among the handful of poets who composed poems in all styles.

Hazratzad said that Shivan's poems are characterized by a specific language structure and called on researchers to make studies in this field. Abdolhossein Deldadeh Ardebili was another researcher participating in the ceremony, who talked about rhythm of Foumani's poems. Seyed Ahmad Fakhrinejad was a literary figure who gained fame for composing Gilaki poems. Several cassettes recorded with Gilaki poems and two books of Persian poetry recited by this famous poet have already been published and his other works are under publication.

Foumani passed away last September due to kidney failure.
