NABLUS, West Bank -- Ali al-Shaar's job with the U.S. Charity Save the Children was to help Palestinian kids lead healthy lives, but he was unable to save the life of his own prematurely born baby. The 38-year-old Palestinian physician said the ambulance that was meant to take the infant to a hospital incubator never arrived at his home in the West Bank city of Nablus because it was forced to turn back by Israeli forces at gunpoint. "My job is to help children and protect them from disease and ignorance...we often succeed, but not with our own children," Shaar told Reuters by telephone, barely able to control his emotions.
