Esteghlal sweeps past Pakhtakor

TEHRAN - Esteghlal football team claimed its first win in the AFC Champions League by beating Pakhtakor on Wednesday.

In Group B, the Tehran-based team beat Pakhtakor 4-2 at Tehran’s Azadi Stadium.
Dusan Savic put Pakhtakor in the lead just five minutes into the match but Hawar Mulla Mohammed evened the score in the 12th minute.
Esteghlal captain Farhad Majidi took advantage of Uzbekistan keeper’s blunder in the 23rd minute and put the ball into back of the empty net.
Seyed Salehi extended Esteghlal’s lead with a third goal in the 57th minute.
Pakhtakor striker Sanat Shikhov pulled a goal back in the injury time but Arash Borhani ended their hopes shortly after.
On Tuesday night, Al Sadd of Qatar defeated Al Nasr of Saudi Arabia 1-0 in the same group and went top of Group B with seven points. Esteghlal has jumped to the second place with four points after defeating the Uzbek representative
