TEHRAN – President Hassan Rouhani’d aide for ethnic and religious minorities has said it is out of the authority of Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati, the Guardian Council chief, to ban minorities from seeking council seats in some constituencies.

The role of the Guardian Council is to interpret the Constitution, not ordinary laws which are enacted by the government according to Majlis legislations, Ali Yunesi told ILNA on Sunday.

In laws regarding minorities, he added, interpretations fall within the authority of the Majlis.
