TEHRAN – The second phase of Iran’s Persian Gulf Star Refinery (PGSR), which is hailed as the Middle East’s largest gas condensate processing complex, is going to be inaugurated officially today, Tasnim news agency reported.

President Hassan Rouhani along with a number of high-ranking officials including Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh and Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Construction Unit Brigadier General Ebadollah Abdollahi will attend the inauguration ceremony in Bandar Abbas southern Iran.

With the second phase of PGSR going on stream, the refinery’s capacity for production of Euro-5 quality gasoline which stood at 12 million liters per day (mlpd) in the first phase will reach 24 mlpd and further to 36 mlpd when the third phase goes operational.

Since inauguration, along with Euro-5 quality gasoline production, PGSR also accounts for 11 mlpd of the country’s total 32 mlpd of Euro-4 gasoline production capacity.

According to Alireza Sadeqabadi, the managing director of National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC), PGSR’s total project is due to be completed by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2019).

The mechanical completion of the mega-refinery’s second development phase was finished in late Iranian calendar year of 1396 (ended on March 20).
