No Iranian delegation heading to Vienna: diplomat

TEHRAN – A group of IAEA inspectors are to travel to Tehran in the next day or two, a diplomat at the International Atomic Energy Agency told the Mehr News Agency on Monday.

During the trip, which comes a week after IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei’s visit to Tehran, the few issues remaining between Iran and the IAEA will be addressed and routine inspections of Iran’s nuclear sites, within the framework of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, will be conducted, the diplomat said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

According to the agreement between ElBaradei and Iranian officials, clearing up the IAEA’s ambiguities about Iran’s nuclear program is the most important part of the inspectors’ mission, he stated, adding, “It has not been decided whether the IAEA deputy director for safeguards issues, Olli Heinonen, will accompany the inspectors to Tehran.”

Meanwhile, he rejected a New York Times report saying a delegation of Iranian officials is due to arrive on Tuesday in Vienna, and added, “There is currently no need for such a trip.”

On the possibility of the IAEA Board of Governors calling an extraordinary session to hear ElBaradei’s latest report on Iran’s nuclear program, he said, “Such a meeting has not been scheduled yet.”
