National unity, a guarantee against foreign pressure: Majlis speaker
In his weekly press conference Haddad-Adel said the UN Security Council sanction against Iran had no “legal justification”.
“The arrogant powers are taking the law, especially the political and international law, into their own hands,” he told reporters.
The official stated that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Security Council were coerced into acting against Iran under the U.S. influence.
The UN Security Council voted unanimously on December 23 to impose sanctions on Iran's trade in nuclear materials and technology.
The speaker reaffirmed that Iran has inalienable right to nuclear technology for civilian uses.
The main issue of contention between Tehran and the West is uranium enrichment. As a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), Iran has right to enrich uranium for civilian uses. The senior MP went on to say that “negotiation is the only way to resolve the Iran nuclear issue.”
The execution of Saddam Hussein is another example of flouting the law by arrogant powers as they didn’t allow the cruel dictator to stand trial for his other numerous crimes, he said, adding that “A person which the world had claims against him was put on trial just for killing the people of a village and didn’t allow the realities to be revealed.”
Saddam was hanged on September 30 for crimes against humanity, specifically the murder of 148 people in Dujail, Iraq in 1982.
