Iranian director to stage play based on Bollywood film “Sholay”

TEHRAN – Iranian director Iman Afsharian plans to stage a play based on the Bollywood classic film “Sholay” in Tehran.
The play titled “Sholay 2” will premiere at Hafez Hall on February 12.
“‘Sholay’ is supposed to be very nostalgic for the Iranian people born during the 1960s and 1970s,” Afsharian told the Persian service of MNA on Monday.
“The film was also among my favorite films,” he added.
He said that he watched many Indian movies and made a trip to India to write the play.
“The story of the play is much updated and focuses on friendship and generosity,” Afsharian said.
A cast of eight actors is scheduled to perform the play.
The Indian Hindu-language action-adventure film “Sholay” was directed by Ramesh Sippy in 1975.
Shortly afterwards, the movie was screened at Iranian movies theaters, and became a popular film among Iranian movie maniacs.
