Explosion during Friday prayers in Islamabad kills over 30

An explosion took place during Friday prayers in the Tarlai area of Islamabad, resulting in 31 deaths and more than 169 injuries, according to the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad. 

Following the incident, an emergency was declared at hospitals across the federal capital. Hospital officials said that the process of transferring the injured to medical facilities was ongoing. Police, rescue teams, law-enforcement agencies, and the bomb disposal squad rushed to the scene immediately. They were shifted to PIMS Hospital without delay.

On the instructions of Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry visited PIMS Hospital, where he inquired after those injured in the blast.

Talal Chaudhry directed authorities to ensure special medical facilities for the injured and said the government was fully committed to providing all possible medical care to the victims.

Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the explosion at the Imambargah, expressing deep sorrow and grief over the loss of lives and offering condolences to the bereaved families. He prayed for the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks and patience for their families.

The prime minister also met Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and instructed him to conduct a full investigation into the incident and to identify those responsible without delay. He directed that the injured be provided with the best possible medical treatment and ordered the health minister to personally oversee the matter.

The prime minister stated that those responsible for the attack would be identified and punished according to the law, adding that no one would be allowed to spread chaos and insecurity in the country.

Head of the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, condemned the Tarlai attack, saying he was deeply saddened by the tragic explosion at Masjid Khadija-tul-Kubra and the killing of innocent worshippers.

He said that such a terrorist attack in the federal capital represents a serious failure in ensuring the protection of human lives.

On the instructions of the Inspector General of Islamabad Police, an emergency was imposed across the city to address any potential threats and to facilitate further investigations.
