TEHRAN – Iraqi students studying in Iran’s Kermanshah province are expected to be trained as “tourism ambassadors” to help promote the province’s historical and cultural attractions in their own country, a provincial tourism official said on Sunday.

The plan was discussed during a coordination meeting between the Kermanshah’s Department of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts and the head of Kermanshah branch of Islamic Azad University, which focused on potential areas of cooperation in tourism.

Fahimeh Roshan, the department’s deputy for tourism, said tourism guide training courses for students were also being considered. Graduates could take the relevant examination and, if successful, obtain tourism guide cards and benefit from related facilities.

Roshan highlighted Kermanshah’s extensive historical heritage, noting that the province has more than 4,000 registered and unregistered historical sites.

“Training tourism guides can create employment in the near future and help promote and introduce the culture and history of this region,” she said.

Roshan also emphasized the growing role of digital technologies and artificial intelligence in tourism, saying the province sought to draw on students’ knowledge and the capabilities of young people to strengthen Kermanshah’s presence in digital tourism and AI and introduce its attractions to international audiences.
