MADRID -- Three people were killed and 13 seriously injured when a Portuguese coach flipped over on a motorway in western Spain early on Friday, police said.

The coach, carrying 44 people all over 50 years old, was on its way to the French pilgrimage site of Lourdes.

One of the two drivers was killed, along with two women aged over 60, police said.

It landed on its side after veering across a motorway.

No other vehicles are involved, Reuters quoted police sources as saying.
