Jalil Rasuli’s “Bismillah Bird” tops Tehran Quranic art sale

The diptych calligraphic painting has been priced at 800 million rials (over $40,000), the director of the auctions, Mohammadreza Kamareii, said in press release on Saturday.
Kamareii is the managing director of Mashq-e Honar, a major publisher of art books in Iran and the organizer of the auctions.
“Bismillah Bird” shows a bird-shaped calligraphy of bismillah in oil and acrylics on two plates of gold with dimension of 2X2 meters.
A large collection of Quranic artworks by giants of Persian calligraphy will be offered at an auction, which will be held at the Niavaran Cultural Center on August 3.
Another collection of artworks will be put on sale at Milad Tower on August 5.
Works by Gholamhossein Amirkhani, Abbas Akhavein, Javad Bakhtiari, Mohammad Salahshur, Yadollah Kaboli, Esrafil Shirchi, Amir-Ahmad Falsafi and many other prominent calligraphers have been selected for the auctions.
The auctions will be hosted by the 78-year-old actor Jamshid Mashayekhi.
The organizer also plans to introduce two books during the auctions: “Paint and Reed” and “The Garden of Bismillah”.
“Paint and Reed” is comprised of images of a collection of calligraphic paintings by the most prominent Iranian artists.
“The Garden of Bismillah” contains images of the calligraphy works and graphic designs selected for the 9th edition of the Bismillah Festival, which will be held at the Niavaran Cultural Center, Milad Tower and Termeh Gallery in late Ramadan.
