TEHRAN – Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi on Saturday expressed deep sorrow over the recent deadly floods and landslides that have killed 20 and injured many more in Japan.

In a statement, Qassemi offered his condolences to the Japanese people and government as well as the bereaved families of victims of the recent natural disasters, Tasnim reported.

It came after a landslide buried houses and people in the small town of Atsuma on Japan's northern island prefecture of Hokkaido.

The landslide was triggered by a magnitude 6.7 earthquake that shook the island Thursday, killing at least 20 people.
