TEHRAN – Simorgh Theater Hall in Tehran will stage the 2018 play “A Very Very Very Dark Matter” written by Martin McDonagh in March.

Directed by Sanaz Mohammadi, the play has Ramin Parchami, Alireza Shabanian, Reza Sarlak, Mohammad Tahmoures, Javad Naderlouei, Sara Ghaffari, Amin Rezvanpour, Elaheh Shafiabadi, Hila Hazaveh, Radin Ghaznavi, Ava Arjangi, Ehsan Hasani, and Amirreza Haji Ali Akbari in the cast, Mehr reported.

Dangerous, twisted and funny, Martin McDonagh’s play travels deep into the abysses of the imagination.

The story happens in a townhouse in Copenhagen where Hans Christian Andersen, a teller of exquisite and fantastic children’s tales beloved by millions, works. But the true source of his stories dwells in his attic upstairs, her existence a dark secret kept from the outside world.

In his attic, he has imprisoned Mbute, a Congolese woman who is in fact the true author of all his stories. Andersen has zero empathy with children and makes a trip to London to see Charles Dickens where it transpires that a sister of Mbute has written all the novels attributed to Dickens.

Martin McDonagh, 55, is a British-born Irish playwright and filmmaker. Known for his absurdist dark humor which often challenges the modern theater aesthetic, he has received numerous accolades including an Academy Award, six BAFTAs, two Golden Globes, and three Laurence Olivier Awards in addition to nominations for five Tony Awards.

His plays, many of which have been produced in the West End and on Broadway, include “The Beauty Queen of Leenane,” “The Cripple of Inishmaan” (both 1996), “The Lonesome West” (1997), “The Lieutenant of Inishmore” (2001), “The Pillowman” (2003), “A Behanding in Spokane” (2010), and “Hangmen” (2015).

McDonagh won the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film for “Six Shooter” and has received six other nominations for his work on “In Bruges” (2008), “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” (2017), and “The Banshees of Inisherin” (2022).

He directed the black comedy film “Seven Psychopaths” (2012) and was executive producer on his brother John Michael's films “The Second Death” (2000) and “The Guard” (2011).
