TEHRAN - Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot on Monday described the U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran as a breach of international law.

The United States and Israel launched an unprovoked and illegal war on Iran on Saturday morning. They started the war amid the nuclear negotiations that the latest round of which was held in Geneva.  Experts from the two sides were also going to hold technical talks in Vienna on March 2.
“As a defender of international law, Belgium must acknowledge that the way in which this operation was conducted does not comply with the norms,” Prevot said in an interview on RTBF’s La Première.
Prevot highlighted that principles of international law “must be weighed against the principle of reality.”
He added, “The risk of a security crisis and widespread conflict in the region had to be avoided.”
The foreign minister called for de-escalation, respect for international law, and a return to diplomacy “as soon as possible.”
