Iran freestyle team defend title in 2026 Asian Championships

TEHRAN – Iran freestyle team defended their title at the 2026 Asian Wrestling Championships on Sunday.

Team Melli finished in first place with 178 points, followed by India (162 points) and Japan (127 points).

The Iranian freestylers claimed four gold medals, one silver and three bronzes.

Milad Valizadeh in 57kg, Kamran Ghasempour in 86kg, Mohammadmobin Azimi in 92kg and Amirhossein Zare in 125kg claimed four golds. 

Amirali Azarpira (97kg) seized Iran’s sole silver in the competition.

Ahmad Mohammadnejhad in 61kg, Sina Khalili in 70kg, and Amirmohammad Yazdani in 74kg snatched three bronzes.

The 2026 Asian Wrestling Championships took place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan from April 6 to 12. 

Iran Greco-Roman team had previously won the title in the event.
