TEHRAN – Iranian Navy has foiled attempts by pirates to hijack an Iranian cargo ship off Pakistan’s southern coasts.

Zarsan ship was sailing 30 miles south Port of Karachi in the Indian Ocean on Saturday when it was attacked by two speedboats.
The Iranian warship opened fire on the pirates, forcing to flee the scene.
This is the sixth battle between Iranian warships and pirates since the beginning of the new Iranian calendar year (started on March 21).
In January, Iran’s Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said the Islamic Republic plans to boost its naval presence in the Indian Ocean to protect the country’s interests
